Needing a Hand

I'm fortunate in that the closest I've come to losing a limb is my arms or legs falling asleep. It is a weird sensation when you can't feel part of yourself. I remember falling asleep on my arm once and feeling pins and needles where my hand once was. I wiggled my fingers but I couldn't feel them. Unfamiliar fingers moved in response to my thoughts... I tried to wave my hand to see if it was there but it was like a stranger waving back at me. Who was this and where was the hand that I had known all my life?
