Why Shakespeare Was British
Why Shakespeare Was British
No emotions please, we’re British;
we rise above the common herd,
not for us the wild and skittish,
impassive is our fav’rite word.
We sail the seas serene and calm,
stiff upper lips on ev’ry face,
tempt destiny without a qualm,
bear win and loss with equal grace.
“Don’t hold it in!” shouts every shrink
“Release it now, stay hale and sane.”
Sorry, old chap, if that’s what you think,
you mistakenly assume we’ve pain.
Passions may be fine for you,
you’re up one day and down the next; we hold on while all accrues,
then later write it down in text!
Line count: 16
Vaguely iambic pentameter with rhyme scheme abab
