What's that spell?


The old woman sat alone in her house,
in kerchief and skirt and threadbare old blouse.
She smiled as she came and answered the bell,
and bade a lost child to rest for a spell.

"What's in that big book?" the young child did ask.
"Perhaps a long tale, or steps for a task?"
"A recipe book from long, long ago
and something real sad - a true tale of woe."

"And what of that candle set up above?
Is it just pretty, or something you love?"
"That one is special, for use once a year.
Come, have a seat in this chair over here..."

They looked all around in trying to glean
a clue to where Judy last had been seen.
They searched high and low for the slightest track,
but still never found the path to that shack.
