20220826 Another Rejection... But An Odd One
August 26, 2022, 7:30am
I had a rejection recently.
Here's how it went down - a local horror writing group wanted me to write something for their newsletter, a guest post, if you will. I am the only traditionally published horror writer they know, so they wanted me to write about something to do with horror. Rules were - horror based, between 350 and 500 words, and something that would interest most horror writers.
I wrote about the changing depiction of vampires.
It was rejected for - and I am serious - not blasting Twilight enough. Yes, in serious horror circles, it is seen as a joke or even a slap in the face, but that was not the point of my article (that was the point of this, though: "BOOK #1 – TWILIGHT" ). I might even have come across as defending some choices Meyer made. But, really, it was less than 500 words; I was not going to write a critique of a book while discussing vampires.
Anyway, the article was rejected for being too nice to a crappy franchise.
I am debating whether to see if WdC would like it for their Horror/Scary newsletter as a guest contributor sort of thing. I have no idea how I would do that, but it is an option.
So, yeah. You can be rejected for the weirdest of reasons.
