Job Dissatisfaction

Dear Sir, or Madam, or Whom
this note may concern:
It’s been many centuries,
since I joined the firm,

always performed my duties,
always gave my best,
but I am convinced it’s time,
that I take a rest.

A change of position is
what I must request,
I need something cheerier
per my therapist.

Siphoning souls seems simple,
but they’re sticky things.
Even to skeletal frames
the damned ones still cling.

No one’s happy to see me,
I’m no welcome guest,
I’m the soul proctologist,
the rotting soul dentist.

Excuse me for confessing,
but it’s depressing,
to be the sole enforcer,
for soul repossessing.

I s’pose I could stoke the fires,
or forge iron chains,
but I’d really like to stop,
causing so much pain.

This, then, will be my last day,
I intend to resign,
visit places far away
a new job to find.

But, I won't give up the heat
that might be too hard.
Maybe I’ll go to Miami,
and be a lifeguard?
