Politicians Lying While People Are Dying Poetry Place Our politicians are lying Many people are killed by guns Gunmen killing them with shotguns Every day people are dying Politicians offer prayers The gun ghosts remain dead, who cares? The Septilla, aka Spanish Septet, is a seven-line poem with most commonly eight syllables per line, with iambic tetrameter or pentameter also acceptable options. The rhyme scheme is either abba or abaca, as described and demonstrated in the following links: https://www.poetrymagnumopus.com/topic/4685-forms-unique-to-p The Septila is described at Poet's Garret as a Spanish septet. It has the appearance of an old Spanish form but I could find no reference to it other than at the Garret. So this could possibly be a more recent invented form taking its cue from Spanish prosody. The elements of the Septila are: 1. stanzaic written in any number of septets, 7 line stanzas, 2. metric or syllabic, in line with Spanish prosody this can be written with 8 syllable lines or it can follow English prosody which tends to be written in tetrameter or pentameter without designated metric pattern. 3. rhymed, rhyme scheme abba or abbacca. |
