The Stories.Com Instant Messaging System allows Authors to send
messages in near real time without requiring the user's constant
attention as a chatroom does. Getting some writing assistance,
a quick opinion or just saying "Hello," is now simple and
convenient!

Registered Authors and above can launch the IM Console
from within the "Member Tools" pull down menu.
When your console is not running, rest assured that Stories.Com
checks for new Instant Messages to you each time you load a
page on the site. If the system finds a new IM for you, it will
automatically launch the IM Console and display your message.
(Members who are not Authors can not send or receive IMs.)

Timing for the Automated Message Checking, which is active when
the IM console is open is different depending on your account
type and level. It is fastest for Upgraded Members of any level;
just one more great reason to financially support Stories.Com!
It is slightly slower for Preferred Authors and above that are not
Upgraded and slightly slower still for Registered Authors without
Upgrades. This helps to moderate the load placed on the servers
by Instant Messaging.
