i bet that oscar speech thing makes sally field want to die sometimes. i was one month old when it happened, and i still snicker about it once in a while, which suggests that sally has spent twenty-one years wishing she'd never opened her mouth that day.

a lot of people say my mom looks like a black sally field. it sounds ridiculous, but i've decided it's true. she acts like her, too, at least in that respect. a few weeks ago, when i was trying to decide on a formal outfit and pointedly rejecting her advice, she got frustrated and said, "how could anyone not want my clothing advice? i always look great!"

we quote her on that a a thousand times a day, mostly when she's trying to make the case that she's not as prissy as everyone says she is.

it's highly possible that she'll still remember that, twenty-one years from now.
