This is the place for all my spotlight challenges |
Who is wiser, men or women? I have thought about this question many times and I always end up arguing for my own side-- of course. First though, I had to find an acceptable definiton of wisdom so I have decided that it is knowledge someone gains through a combination of learning and experience and so it is sexless. There are, of course, some who would argue that because men have been the leaders in the world of business and politics and women--so far--have not then men must be wiser. But then the people in power are also the ones making the rules and deciding who gets to be in power next and lots of times this has nothing to do with wisdom. Now, don't get me wrong. Yes,I am a feminist and I will gladly say it out loud now that I am wiser and yes, this is beginning to sound like a feminist rant, but what exactly was the question again? Oh, who is wiser men or women...in my opinion that is a sexist question so it deserves a sexist answer--WOMEN then are the wiser lot. But there is still more to it than such straight forward answers. In all fairness, I have to say that the definition of wisdom is relative depending on the subject at hand. And still that relativity can be surmounted by members of either sex who wish to approach said subject with the intent to master it. If, for instance, I choose to go and learn how to repair the engine of my car, then I am perfectly able to learn how to do that. Just as, if my husband chose to learn how to cook a gourmet meal, he would be equally capable. Therefore, it is my conclusion that there is no difference between men and women in the area of wisdom--neither is the wiser one--the difference lies merely in the initiative to gain that wisdom. |
