Commerical Whaling?
World Wildlife Fund environmentalists are up in arm over the latest move by the International Whaling Commission. The IWC suggests taking whaling quotas from the three nations that currently hunt whales: Iceland, Japan, Norway. On the surface that sounds sensible; but environmentalists see it as an open door to rescinding the ban on commercial whaling that has been in place for two decades. Gentle Readers may remember that we mentioned in January that Japanese commercial whalers confronted Greenpeace environmentalist activists off Antarctica at least twice recently.
