An evil twist to the usual things that go bump in the night. |
The nurse came back into the room. "Are you ready to go Janet?" asked the nurse. "I guess so!" Janet tried to smile. She was still shook up from the earlier events. "Janet, you look pale. You sure you feel well?" The nurse said touching her forehead. "I am fine," Janet lied. It was the only way she was going to save her birthday. She hooked her arm into the nurse's arm. The nurse hurried and took her out of the room and halfway down the hall. "Wait a minute! Wait a minute!" Janet turned around and stared. She saw them. The nurses, what were they doing? Janet walked closer. The nurses were cleaning the room down the hall. Janet walked closer. "Janet please," her nurse called after her, "Don't go there!" Janet ignored the pleas. "What happened here?" Janet asked one of the nurses she'd never seen before. "Billy was killed last night." "What!" Janet yelled shocked. She ran into the room. The smell of blood surrounded her. There were blood stains on the wall and on the floor next to Billy's bed. The nurse's button was filled with it. "Janet you can't be in there! The police said we couldn't let you in there!" "H...h...how did Billy die?" There was silent. Janet could hear only the breathing of the nurses scrubbing down the walls. "I said, how did Billy die?" Janet got louder. "Someone killed him with a kitchen knife!" Janet ran across the hallway and into the bathroom. She bent over and threw up in the toilet. Her heart was pounding out of her chest. Breathe...damn it.....breathe. Janet said to the silence. The nurse walked into the bathroom. "Janet are you okay?" Janet stood for a minute. She straightened up her shirt. She washed her hands and face. "Yes...I'm fine." Janet replied, "Let's go." They headed down the hallway. |
