I am writing this as part of Andy's Harry Potter Writing Challenge. Using the quote to write a poem or short story a day.

"Scars can come in useful."

Scars on my heart from bad romances-
made me realize these weren't nice guys
or the ones for me. I learned about life
and after bad romances, I learned a lot.

Who was that woman from so many years ago?
I have been married for a long time and I
am happy. I learned there was a nice guy
for me and I am glad I found him. I smile.

My scars on my heart I don't think about.
I have scars from operations and I hope
I never have more surgeries. My scars make
me remember life isn't easy. We all age.

We grew older and have health issues. We
can rise above them. Thank God for another
day and now, another year. Scars can come in
useful. They are mere wrinkles in your life.

These scars on my heart and my body, are they
useful? They help make me the person I am now.
I cherish my days and my life remembering I
almost died through my extensive bowel surgery.

I remember John Wayne riding his horse and
jumping over a fence saying: "It's good to be
alive." Thank you John Wayne. It is and the
scars don't matter. They are part of me. My life.
