(for a moment)
I’m made up of words—
snaking from my brain
through the internet
to touch you,
on the other side of the screen.
see?
we think together
you and I
(for a moment)
from my mind
through my fingers
to your eyes,
where they twist to fit
your understanding,
and we are connected,
(for a moment, then it’s gone)
across space and time.
I have a difficult time writing poetry that's too technologically oriented. It's training, I think. When I read poems, I like to have emotional resonance to it, a place where I can capture a feeling, and there's something about technology that can potentially take that away. But I've always liked the way that the written word links people across time and space, and that feels even more evident when I consider today's technological achievements. Although I don't let myself be tied too tightly to my phone. Or my computer. Or my kindle for that matter.
