Spaces in My Life

There are          SPACES          in my life
                                                 left over from childhood!
         I was born in a sundown town
                             - apartheid American style -
                   my playmates were lily-white.

There are spaces          IN          my life
                                                 left over by my parents!
         My father an alcoholic
                             divorced by my mother.
                   Her boyfriend a pedophile.

There are spaces in          MY          life
                                                 left over by one I loved!
         our daughter
                   given up for adoption.

There are spaces in my          LIFE
                                                 created by me!
         Dreams that died before they could bloom
                             killed by
fear.

Hopelessness -
empty places in my soul;
spaces left unfilled.
Places/spaces that only God can fill.
