The Unreducible Mind?

"Why is the train going in reverse?" Abby queried her life partner Nikki.
Nikki was groggy from her nap and glanced from their bed to the window.
"Hm." Nikki muttered, "Maybe, there's something blocking the track?"
She fumbled with the phone on the wall, "Yeah. Hi. Are we going backwards?"
Nikki sipped some water as the voice on the phone explained the situation.

"Okidoki." Nikki sat up, "There is a fallen tree blocking the tracks.
The train is backing up into a side spur and waiting for a crane car."
"Is that a monkey?" Abby pointed to the monkey outside their window.
Nikki rung up the conductor again, "There is a monkey outside our window."
She hung up, "Some monkeys escaped from an overturned truck."
Nikki walked slowly to the window and pulled the shades.

Abby clung to Nikki, "I have my mace."
A grey humanoid with bat wings snatched the monkey away.
Abby and Nikki could not of known this, since the shades were pulled.
"I still have the Holy Water I bought in Rome." Nikki searched her purse.
"Your not Catholic." Abby stammered..
"So, what? It's blessed by the Pope." Nikki sprinkled the Holy Water about their bed.
