An image for a blog that I hope will take root. What does Philippians 4:13 mean to you?

My favorite verse in all of Paul's writing, and possibly in the Bible, is Philippians 4:13. It says "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

You see I have a mental illness known as bi-polar disorder and like most mental illnesses it is accompanied by a second illness called Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Bi-polar disorder is disabling and often left me flat on my back with depression or acting wildly with manic energy. The anxiety disorder often leaves me with chest pains mimicking a heart attack as well as a lot of anguish. I have learned however that the key to overcoming the symptoms of anxiety is to cast my cares upon Jesus Christ. I really can do all things through Him. I find that the worst anxiety attacks and even the mood swings that accompany bi-polar disorder respond to that name. Yes, I still take medications. I feel that God uses doctors. However the day to day symptoms are only relieved by prayer.

Image for BCOF members to put in their blogs "Prompt: What is your favorite poem? Who is your favorite poet?"

Who is my favorite poet? Me of course! No seriously my favorite poem is Robert Frost and my favorite poem is "Snowy Evening in the Deep Woods", although I also like "The Path Less Traveled."

Both of these poems have meaning and heart, although "The Path Less Traveled" has a lot more philosophical meaning. We all like the easy roads and this poem tells us there is a lot to be gained by taking the tougher roads. I tell people all the time that humans are like plants. We need a good helping of manure in order to grow.
