I remember my kids using homemade drum sets and, for myself, more cake than you could eat - no, seriously. I like how you take us from the simple joys of childhood to the life of an adult, remembering how things were and hoping for some new adventure.

There's a melancholy about this piece while reading, and I'm sure many of us can relate to that feeling you've captured quite well when it comes to birthday celebrations.

Nice! How many of us have been caught in that little trap? My wife, for one. It wasn't by just a day, but it still sidelined her for a year.
