The simplicity of my day to day. |

| Christmas, children, is not a date. It is a state of mind" and "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched—they are felt with the heart". The quote "Christmas, children, is not a date. It is a state of mind" was written by American educator and author Mary Ellen Chase, while the second part, "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched—they are felt with the heart," is famously by Helen Keller. These are two separate, beloved quotes often shared around the holidays. I’ve never heard the first quote before but I do agree that how we see Christmas is coloured by one’s state of mind. Of course it is over commercialised, everyone knows that. It’s expensive and puts stress on people to buy and to over commit financially. But for those people who can see beyond the hype and just take the good parts of the season, they have managed to retain a child’s view of Christmas and that’s pretty magical, isn’t it? I loved Christmas when I was a child and then again when my kids were small but now I must admit to a little bit of scepticism and I’ve certainly lost a bit of the wonder of the season. And yet, yesterday at a local theatre’s pantomime production, seeing the gorgeous faces of those children who were taking part , gave me joy and a bit of the Christmas spirit. Merry Christmas everyone. |
