Was just watching a version of 'Five Little Monkeys' with my housekeeper's granddaughter.

This version has the teacher reading it to the kids and playing at being doctor with a moustache. The kids then take it in turn to hold the moustache to their faces and be the doctor. I like the version and maybe can use the idea some time for a session myself.

My maternal grandparents brought the idol of Lord Ganeha home each year and we had a big celebration. Being the eldest grandchild, I got to do the 'puja' - hold the holy candleflame on its tray and circle it around while the hymn was sung. Fond memories!

Yesterday I visited my aunt (age 84) and cousin in the afternoon. We had tea and dosa and a lot of conversation. Their Doberman, Cocoa, has hurt his leg and he keeps biting it so he was wearing a big collar, but he greeted me enthusiastically anyway! It was a fun time! *Smile*

Today is Independence Day.

I recall my Dad's story - when he was in the second grade and the British were still ruling India. The kids were taken by their teacher to march ont he streets chanting 'We Want independence".

Dad wasn't in an English Medium school, so he hadn't got to the word 'Independence' yet, and nobody in the class knew what that meant.

In those days ink pens (fountain pens) were called Indipens and the kids coveted those.

So they thought the teacher was asking the British to buy them pens, and took to the streets with gusto, yelling "We Want Indipens!"

Thanks for the parents and nanny who took care of me for so many years.
Thanks for a lovely house and neighbourhood to live in.
Thanks for friends and family who rally round whether I've been in touch or not.
Thanks for so many privileges that others would love to have and I can almost take for granted.
Thanks for an education that made me what I am - a very modern Principal who made sure we grew up to be strong women who were creative and independent.
Thanks for this site which has helped me hone my writing and reviewing skills and given me an online community.
Thanks for everything!!

Hallo! I'm listening to Anne of Windy Poplars.

I think I'll use the passage on 'time' for a creative writing exercise with my students! *Smile*

My current favourite chapter is Year 2 chapter 5 about Katherine Brooke.

I conducted a Harry Potter quiz for Grade IV today.
96 kids participated, in three batches of 32 each. They were divided into teams of three or four kids per team, and there were Potterheads and non-Potterheads in each team. It was great fun and I think I've sparked off some interest in Potter among the Non-Potterheads!
