Amethyst Angel, this version of "Carol of the Bells," reminded me of the version by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

Classic Music with a techno beat and I go way back. I found the Ferry Corsten version of Barber's Adagio years ago, and it remains one of my all-time favorites in that genre.

Sorry if this is a shock to the system to find out that a retiree likes music with a heavy techno beat. But in my defense, there is a much younger man, hanging out in this aging body, waiting for the Lord Jesus to return. Then, I can be young, again, during His Millennial Reign.

on this one. Just look up, "Carol of the Bells" (all genres), and see how many versions there are. I just did, and found a YouTube video, that was nearly a half-hour long with at least a dozen versions of it.

Sorry for the long comment, but "Carol of the Bells" is one of my favorite Christmas songs. Can you tell?

I agree with you. Comes off as very angry as opposed to mellow cello. Of course, I was listening to Via Dolorosa on handbells earlier, a peaceful contrast in style. It's interesting how it doesn't translate well to strings. Just my opinion.

It's also arguably *the* most popular recital song that all our kiddos want to learn this time of year on their various instruments.

I'm 71 (and still going strong, I might add). But in one phase of my life, I spent 13 years in the Army. One thing I learned from those years that I always remember is "Rest is a weapon."

I try and remember that doing nothing IS something. Don't underestimate to power a little rest will have on you. I'm glad you have some downtime.

Day 9, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Lindsey Stirling

My ninth track is an entirely different reinterpretation of God Rest Ye Merry, by… Who else? Lindsey Stirling. She managed to transform what Loreena McKennit made solemn, almost mournful, into a whimsical disco track, complete with a predominant, bouncy dubstep beat and a vaguely computerized voice actually singing some of the words.

This is one Lindsey Stirling song I can't call “ominous;” it's just too danceable for that. It's off the wall, in a cute way. I like the in-between melody she put together, the one that doesn't follow the verse pattern but seems to be unique. It reminds me of something but I can't think what. The whole rendition, indeed, seems somehow familiar. Perhaps the style is familiar from my experience with EDM (electronic dance music.) It's techno: so much so, the violin is almost secondary to the beat and other techniques, except for that special section between.

Hey, go ahead and break out a few moves with this one… I wouldn't blame you
