Hubris Her shoes are loud, and her dress is short, and I’m afraid she’ll fall down and I’ll accidentally see her under things and fall in love with her like he did when he saw them. Like they all do. How they clamor and beg to see them again, and she says things and laughs and pretends it’s her words that have them snared, while they dangle from her bionic breasts. Fish on a line. The strong ones want to wear her around like a condom and show their friends, while the weak want to offer themselves up; show her the love of a good man. But love is nothing. It’s the coin she puts into the machine that sells power. She flicks it away. But those dangling boys are doomed because surely her punishment waits for her around the next corner, and all that will remain is a blasted hole and a story about a pretty girl and a terrible man, but we’ll know the truth. For how could the Gods allow such beauty to walk in such loud shoes and wield such power with such impunity Nemesis was the Goddess of Jealousy and Retribution. She directed human affairs in such a way as to maintain equilibrium. Her name means she who distributes or deals out. Happiness and unhappiness were measured out by her, care being taken that happiness was not too frequent or too excessive. If this happened, Nemesis could bring about losses and suffering. |
