About coveting your neighbor's wife... Covet (World Book dictionary definition): to eagerly desire We don't always have control over our thoughts! It's one thing to have intentions of being a homewrecker, but quite another if you happen to fall in love with someone who's married. You can't help but think of the person all the time, even if there's effort not to. It happened to me with someone who eventually developed feelings for me too, but neither of us ever did anything about it for the sake of friendship, as well as knowing we acted rightly about it. I could never believe I've sinned in any way in that regard. Also, this commandment only mentions "wife." It doesn't say anything about women coveting the husbands of their neighbors. I've brought that up before, mainly for the sake of a laugh, but I've had people get a little upset with me saying "Oh come on, you know it really means anybody coveting anybody who's married." Then why is it male-specific? What's up with that? Even if you see a married woman on any kind of regular basis and constantly think "Wow...she's gorgeous!" How is that really a sin? This commandment should be replaced with one more direct and serious, which you would think would deserve one as often as it happens throughout time: Thou shalt not rape or molest. ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** |
