Nice simile. When you say you are like water, it sounds like you are easy going and placid by nature, but can become a real powerhouse when motivated by others.
In The Penelopiad, which I am currently reading, Margaret Atwood uses the water image differently.
Water does not resist. Water flows. When you plunge your hand into it, all you feel is a caress. Water is not a solid wall, it will not stop you. But water always goes where it wants to go, and nothing in the end can stand against it. Water is patient. Dripping water wears away a stone.
In the context of her story, her seemingly powerless and quite unhappy female character survives because she goes around rather resists her opponents and ultimately wears them down. At least I think she does. I haven't finished the book yet.
