I've stated I find abortion as birth control abhorrent. I lost a child to stillbirth. A healthy fetus, baby, whatever you may call it is nothing short of a miracle and should be viewed as such. However, my worry is doing harm to people like the ladies I've encountered in grief counseling that fell into that rare 1% of "no win" cases. Think about it: 1% of a population of millions is still a large number. Some carry to term and others don't--but in dire circumstances they (and their husbands) should be the ones to decide. The argument is often "it's so rare the courts could handle it" and what I'm saying is...if you're in that position...court is the last thing needed and only compounds grief for that family. I don't disagree, at all, that the current system is abused. I just fail to see a way in which it can be modified to protect the "medical cases" from abuse while preventing irresponsible missuse. Also, I was trying to point out that the argument is a lot larger than "rape and incest" exceptions or "irresponsible teens". Besides that, teens aren't the largest portion of out-of-wedlock pregnancies or abortions. |
