Re: Re: A journey of a thousand miles-
Good heavens! Company!
(runs around tidying up the mess / blizzards of bookmarks, leaning pizza-towered bookpiles, scraps, notes, phone messages, rhyming couplets, triplets and assorted orphans that don't rhyme at all...)
hauls out the one solid chair not piled high in writing room efluents...and offers seat, coffee, muffins, pickled herring, ripe dates and toothpicks.

there now. (collects thoughts rather like parking ticket wicket watcher)
What particularly grabbed me was the mention of sports and business in the same breath (an epic response due there, no doubt)
but let's leave that one shy of all but one small comment:
The purchase, for the purpose of mercantile endeavors, of mythology (for all great sport is myth, of the best kind) steals a little of the collective soul of
humanity - that once upon a time in our fair nation, the populace could dream big, almost for free, and witness astounding events in order to relate the passage of epics and epochs to adoring grandchildren.

Which leads me thus - face to face can be the greatest farce, when idiots and illiterates know not the language.....
how to read a face......requires a certain adeptness, a particular literacy long past its shelf life, it seems, in this darkened age.
Say what?
Just this: the "reading" of a face can be the measure of a literary masterpiece, (or on the other hand, a comic book flip.) it is entirely the
reader's choice.
Impressions are tricky things. They breathe in the mood of the moment, capricious, fickle, and altogether astoundingly untrustworthy.
How many times has a casual glance given us the correct and precisely required information? (assuming there is a need to know in the first place.)
Snapshots. Edits. Airbrushed. Rewrites. Filed, focused, interfaced, collages, montages.......
until something, anything of substance stops the carrousel.
And it is then - we actually can stop and admire the dazzle and shine of the sculpted expression - the one hidden by the roundabout blur.....
the one revealed by the slowing of the machine.
That's if we look.
(looks around and notices the crowd gathered in the room)

oh - yes! Pleased to meet you. Thanks for stopping by!
