This question comes up all of the time, and I never like most people's answers. Really and truely, if I had one available slot at a dinner where any soul could be seated, I know exactly who'd be in that chair. People like to pick historical figures or famous people from the political arena or the art world or Hollywood or whatever, but c'mon, what are you really going to talk about over dinner? If I had to pick, I'd invite my grandmother, who passed a few years ago, for two simple reasons:
1) I'd get to catch her up on things that I never realized I wanted to share with her before she was gone and 2), she was always the life of the party. I could dig for hours and bore you with more reasons it'd be a blast to have my grandma at the dinner table, but you'll just have to take my word for it. Really when you look at this scenario, what's more important, bumping into a famous or influential person for a brief moment, or having a caring network of friends and family your whole life?
