A creative essay writing challenge from The Talent Pond. CURRENTLY CLOSED! |
Hi there, Sorry for the delay in responding... the idea of the contest is to challenge you to write something that's non-fiction in the sense that you're applying reason, logic, facts (if applicable), etc. to a piece of writing that explores the merits of a proposed concept or situation, rather than writing a fictional story that's judged on characterization, narrative, etc. You can call it "creative nonfiction" if you like. The goal of this contest is to challenge you to write something different than the fiction and poetry that most contests are geared toward... but at the same time, we still want it to be fun and thought-provoking. So we abolished all "boring" essay topics and are proposing ones that hopefully get you to think, even if they're not 100% factual in origin. You just have to write about them like they are. Does that make sense? Regarding the 2,000 words... once we get a few entries, if the general consensus is that the word count is too restricting, I will consider raising it; the original thought was that 2,000 words is enough space to write a developed but not necessarily extensive or exhaustive analysis, argument, etc. I hope this clears everything up. Thanks for your questions and sorry again for the delay in responding!
