I found that the overall attitude of the men was a bit over the top, but then again, it does filter down from the head honcho. I would imagine there were a few men who 'went along' as that was the way the boss was. I think the way this would shape Jack's psyche is pretty intense.
I started working full-time in the late seventies, and I do know women had a better standing in the workforce by then. Obviously, in this case, the woman was also okay with her role, but there were definitely women fighting for better treatment in this time period.
I did have a question about Jack becoming a lawyer at the age of 21 - that does not allow enough time for schooling as far as I understand it.
