It's not that I expect the CRs to be worth anything to their holder. There are other mechanisms for that. GPs, account types, etc.

I just want the CR score to be meaningful - to be shorthand for something useful. I don't think it is at the moment. And if it's not going to be useful, why have it at all? If it's not there to encourage the kind of behaviour we want on the site, and to indicate who the "team players" are, what's the point?

I would say that it looks like a way to sell more Award Icons and Merit Badges, so people can pump up their CR scores for bragging rights, except that giving away 5 points per year for nothing actually devalues those too, in terms of CR score.

At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter. I'm not in it for the recognitions anyway, and nor are the people who ought to have the most of them. I just thought it worth noting that they don't seem to achieve their apparent purpose, as currently configured. But again, the Achievement merit badges do go some way toward correcting that.
