Yeah, I feel most would want to rent another life but they're not looking to buy. I think the character would have to have good reason to abandon their life, a lot of dissatisfaction with things as they are, to want to do it. Will, by necessity, reaches that point often because he largely feels like there's not a lot going for him. Why bother sticking it out not going anywhere when you can be someone who is? Gloria Rea is someone else we've seen who'd abandon her life in a heartbeat in favor of a different one, especially one away from Chelsea and the squad. Josiah Shanks possibly since he seems to be content being Chelsea but he's also far and away the least focused on and developed character in that area so it's hard to know. Gordon is a complicated case where I don't think he'll seek it out but if it happens then he'll live with it. But all of those swaps have been into other guys so it's a relatively easy enough adjustment, even someone like Jack. But how would he handle being swapped into the body of, say, a girl like Jenny or Leah or whoever? I think one reason, too, that stories never reach a takeoff point is that there's an in-built barrier in the Durrases where it takes a bit of work to not have them on the trail of whoever's using the book. |
