Urbie Green. Urbie was probably one of the finest all-around studio trombonists. He had the ability to perform any type of music with fluid ease, was an excellent improviser, and had great technique and range. Yes, there were other players who outshone him in specific ways; some could play faster, some higher, and there were better jazz players, but none combined all facets of playing like Urbie did.
