Back home (Trinidad and Tobago), we're not that big on Earth Day. We seem to be so confident that we live in an island paradise that nobody really takes the environment seriously.
On the other hand, in France although I'm not sure if there is any specific Earth day celebration (April 11th) in Tours, the town where I live, they take time out about three times a year to have a day "in town without my car"
They block off the town center to all vehicular traffic, give free parking outside of it and rent bikes out to people cheaply.
Its actually pretty gratifying to see the town that tranquil, silent and unpolluted. It doesn't really affect me much though since I more or less walk everywhere that I have to go to or take the buses (which by the way are not diesel having been adapted to use that environmentally friendly gas).
This year they might probably try to address the oil spill issue in the coastal parts of France.
