Ruto refused the messenger who, dismayed, bowed and relayed this news to the king.
Ruto told her father that the whole idea was just superstition and that the Zoras would continue to thrive without a fat ruler.
Though Ruto knew deep down this was not true she had another reason: many years ago she had sworn to marry Link and she still loved him deeply. If she became huge and fat then any chance she had of winning over Link once and for all would be gone. She told this much to her father who thought long and hard about it until he had an idea.
A few days later, Link was summoned to the Zora Kingdom and was explained this by the King.
'So what do you want me to do?' Link asked
'Well er, we were wondering if...er...' said the King sweating nervously 'if you would be interested in....marrying...her, upon her royal proposal.'
Links heart came very close to stopping and he swallowed loudly.
Link was unwilling to be betrothed to Ruto so early, he admired the Zora Princess very much though he still had strong feelings for Zelda- but on the other hand, a whole kingdom was counting on him.
