You, Peter, are a nice young man of 25, fairly educated and reasonable, who had managed to avoid any entanglements with the opposite sex that could have led to your premature demise. Years ago, in college, you had dated a pretty girl named Jessie, a short, cute brunette with pretty light brown hair and hazel eyes and a broad smile. Jessie was a shy, quiet girl at first glance, but her eyes betrayed an indomitable spirit beneath. She eventually broke up with you, despite the fact that the two of you had always gotten along well, right before you had graduated and that broke your heart, leaving you with a feeling that you were just not strong and passionate enough for her and that you were a victim of circumstances and betrayal. It took a while, but you had mostly moved on in the years following, and Jessie had gotten married rather quickly--only feeding your pain at first but ultimately making it easy enough for you to write Jessie off and try to find someone else.
Suddenly, though, out of the blue you receive a message from her. Jessie is coming to your area and wants to see you! All sorts of feelings popped up: anxiety, anger, longing, warmth. You had hoped to someday get back in touch with her, as friends, but never got around to actually doing so. Maybe this would be the day.
