"You are dragon kin. Of that there is no doubt." said Ramses, "No other would have defended us."
"I had no choice," you hear yourself say quietly, "I could not allow the innocent to suffer."
Ramses shifted his massive bulk and leaned towards your face. You are acutely aware of the huge head inches from your own, the scales as black as the deepest pit. His jaws parted slightly to reveal wickedly sharp teeth as long as your middle finger. Fear should have risen within you but you had no doubt in your mind that this creature would cause you no harm. His breath warmed your face as he spoke. "And that is why you are a rider." He said softly. "You could not go against what you knew to be right. Any other would have aided his fellow man, even though it repelled him, for I sense that the consequenses of doing otherwise would be dire indeed. Yet, you did not. That, little human, is rare.
Ramses pulled back and gazed at you from twin dark pools of eyes. "There is honour in what you did and a respect that is not begrudged. For the first time in a thousand years dragonkind offers you, a human, this choice for I tell you now, you are dragon kin indeed."
At that moment you felt a tension build, a yearning for action, a need to be complete. You feel a power rising around you, pulsing to a strange beat. The power is almost palpable, barely held in check by something outwith your field of knowledge. You know within yourself that whatever decision you make will have momentous consequences.
"I will tell you what it means to be a rider. It means that you bond to a dragon. From that moment forward, your lives are entwined and only death will sever that link. You will grow together, strengthen one another, become something stronger, smarter and more capable than either of you could have been alone. Together, you are greater than the sum of your parts. Together you are one of the most powerful forces to move upon the face of this world. Together you may be able to stop this terrible slaughter. I offer you this great honour at the time of our greatest need for if something is not done soon, this world will tear itself apart. Only one with the highest moral calibre can be considered. Only one who would do 'what is right' no matter what the consequenses."
The huge dragon turned it's head from you and sighed deeply. "You have my word that if you turn this offer down, you may walk free from this place without persecution. This decision must be made without coercion. Now, what say you little human?"
