You can see the ground on the other side of the dragon. The dragon shifts and for a second you can see quite distinctly that the picture of the ground through the dragon and the ground around it do not match before the dragons skin seems to shift before settling so that it matches the ground once again. Looking closer you see that the effect is not perfect, the image shifts slightly as the dragon in and exhales and it looks as if it were fragmented as though viewed through hundreds of tiny shards of glass all stuck together to make a looking glass. You presume that this is the scales. All that is easily visible is the eyes, ice blue, and the red open mouth as the dragon yawns.
The dragons thoughts are soothing and as you see it settle it's head on your arm you feel sleepy yourself, even though you had slept until only an hour before the attack. Shifting the dragon slightly you remove your shirt and use it to form a sling in which you settle the baby dragon while you walk.
Even as you walk the dragons dreams flash before your eyes, the memories of it's first two hours of life the only things it has to dream about. You walk as far as you can before the urge to sleep begins to push at you from your own mind as well as the dragons. As safe as you can be at the moment you settle onto a relatively soft patch of earth and lay down your head. Sleep washes over you and your dreams are of your life and some few of having four legs and fleeing the creatures who wore the night and stepped like thunder on the shells of your fellows eggs. You remember seeing someone who, wore the night best, as if he were part of it, he ran into the forest and you followed.
