David couldn't see anything, but he could still hear fairly well. And he could tell that they were leaving the building, probably heading home. He momentarily thought about trying to escape, but even if he could, where would he go? He was only about a foot tall and he'd more likely frighten people than get any help from them. No, his best option was to wait until he got home, then try to reason with Ryan, once he was let out of the gym bag.
Ryan and David's apartment was only about a block away, so there was no need to drive to the gym. That's why he constantly felt like someone was carrying the bag he was in. They were walking back to the apartment.
About halfway there, David began to reconsider his decision to stay in the bag. What if he couldn't reason with Ryan? Normally, Ryan wouldn't fall for another guy like that, and from what he could tell, that Pete guy was straight, right? So it certainly wasn't normal for him to suddenly be all gay for Ryan. Well, all of that plus the fact that David had shrunk in size made this all irregular. Both Ryan and Pete just took it all in stride that David was now only about a foot tall. Under the circumstances, Ryan may not be in the right state of mind to listen to reason.
Judging by how much time had passed, David had a feeling that there wasn't much more distance between them and the apartment, but then it happened. Another voice! And that meant another person. Maybe if he shouted loud enough ...
He listened as hard as he could. It was a girl's voice. A teenager, maybe a little older. "Pete, why are you holding hands with that guy?" she asked. She knows that Pete guy! This was even better. Maybe she can talk some sense into him.
"Because he's my boyfriend," Pete answered.
"Boyfriend? What, are you gay?" she asked, sounding astonished.
"Well, yeah. I thought you would have noticed," Pete said. David's uneasiness with this situation just increased. From what the girl said, it was clear that Pete wasn't supposed to be gay, but Pete insisted that he was, that apparently he had always been. Talk about a mind fuck. How was David supposed to reason with that kind of mental state. Did Ryan even remember he and David being a couple? Were Ryan's memories as changed as Pete's? "Listen, Sarah. I know you think that we had something together, but it was all just for show. I was afraid of how my family and friends would react if it came out that I was homosexual. But now none of that matters. I'm moving in with Ryan and I'm going to spend the rest of my life with him."
Then David felt the bag moving again. They were walking! If he was going to make his move, now would be the time!
"Help! Help me!" David yelled as loud as he could, over and over.
Outside of the bag, Sarah could have sworn she heard someone calling for help, but where did it come from?
