It's a known fact that demons like to eat humans. Sometimes, a demon will let a human live in its stomach for days at a time, enjoying the struggles of the human in thier belly. Male demons tend to eat young female humans and a demoness tends to eat young male humans...although some demons aren't that particular about gender. Inu-Yasha's father had liked to eat humans of each gender (judging by the number of human skulls in the tomb of Inu-Yasha's father). For some demons, eating a human is considered to be sexually arousing, and indeed, a demon does make a human have a climax in thier mouths before swallowing them whole and alive. A lot of demons see humans as food, because what else is a mere human good for? A few demons (less than 15% of 'em) don't eat humans at all. And even less demons marry mortal men and women to raise a family...and only 1% of them stick around once thier half-breed offspring are born. Inu-Yasha's father had a thing for beautiful mortal women and he would kidnap 'em and raped them...although, in the case of Inu-Yasha's mother, she wasn't raped. Inu-Yasha's father had felt geniune love over a mortal woman and she had his son---The half-demon known as Inu-Yasha. Inu-Yasha had been "young" when his mother died...one day, she just fell over dead while working in the fields. Inu-Yasha was a loner when his mother died, because his father had died shortly after the death of his mother. Although, what could possibly kill Inu-Yasha's gigantic father? Even demons can die if the right weapon is used. Demons are immortal, while half-demons aren't. Half-Demons age slower than humans, but they do age.
When Kagome first came to the Warring States Era of Japan, Inu-Yasha had hated her for looking (and smelling) like Kikyo. That hatred of Kagome slowly faded away and Inu-Yasha had fallen in love with her...much to the chigrin of Miroku.
Night of the new moon. The night where the moon isn't visible in the night sky, and Inu-Yasha hated it. He hated it because it was the one time that he was a mere mortal. Every Half-Demon reverts to a normal human...and every half-demon had a speical time in which they are weak as a human...and Inu-Yasha's time was that of the night of the new moon, which happened every month without fail. On those nights, Inu-Yasha's hair turned black and lost his "doggie" ears. He also lost his supernatural strength. Inu-Yasha tended to stay away from the group whenever this happened because he couldn't face them as a mere human. Kagome, Shippo and Miroku had all seen Inu-Yasha in this form, but it really bothered Inu-Yasha.
Tonight, Inu-Yasha was high in a tree overlooking the campsite for that night. He had climbed the tree before the change happened, and he intended to stay the night in the tree. He was lying on a big fat branch about half-way up the tree, and listening to the night sounds...as best as he could. He had just woken up with a start, and had almost fallen out of the tree. He had dreamed about being pinned to that damned tree by Kikyo again. After all this time, Inu-Yasha still had dreams about Kikyo betraying him...but it had been Naruku that had fucked things up between Kikyo and Inu-Yasha. For 50 years, Inu-Yasha was in an enchanted sleep, until Kagome broke the spell and freed him. That seemed to happen a lifetime ago. Inu-Yasha looked up in the sky and saw that it was nearly dawn...and he had all his demonic strength back, which made him smile and he leapt off the tree to the ground.
Kagome, Sango, Miroku and Shippo were all asleep around a cold campfire.
Today's the day, Inu-Yasha thought. today's the day that I'll tell Kagome how I really feel about her.
"Hey, time to wake up" said Inu-Yasha.
Nobody woke up or stirred.
"Hey, I told you time to wake..." Inu-Yasha's voice trailed off as he realized that he couldn't smell the group around the campfire. He sniffed at the bodies that were around the campfire, and he finally realized that they were just clay statues in the shape of each person! There was also another scent around the campfire...the scent of a demon.
"Damnit!" said Inu-Yasha.
A pinprick of pain on his chest made Inu-Yasha look down and saw none other than Myoga the Flea feasting on his blood...his way of getting attention. Inu-Yahsa slapped hard at Myoga, causing the little demon to stop.
"Myoga, what the hell happened to the others?" asked Inu-Yasha.
"Oh, Lord Inu-Yasha" said Myoga. "they were taken away by Cessa, the demon-snake that roams this area. I tried to wake you, but Cessa put me to sleep with her big yellow eyes...they say that she can even put a demon to sleep in order to feed on. Oh, I fear the worse has happened to the others.
"I hope not" said Inu-Yasha.
