Tired and beat up as you are, you climb back down the couch and begin your trek across the giant wooden floor, leaving the sleeping giant behind you. However, before you get far, you hear a rumbling behind you. You turn around to see the giant slowly getting up muttering something about being hungry, and to your horror, you are right between him and the kitchen. You are too frozen with fear to move, and can do nothing but stare as the giant's booming footsteps get close and closer. It seems to go in slow motion as the giant bare foot is raised above you, and you get a clear view of the sole you were so recently plastered to. It seems unfair to think you escaped the inside of the giant's boot, only to be stomped and squished like a bug by his giant foot moments later. With immeasurable force, the huge mass of foot slams down with a "thoom!" right next to you, so close that the wind rushing out from under it blows you over. A second later as you stare at the enormous instep of the foot in front of you, you realize with shock that you are still alive, and that you involuntarily screamed at the moment the foot descended, and that the giant has stopped moving. He turns his head downward just as you turn yours upward and you see his curious expression change to one of happiness and recognition.
"Hi down there!" he booms in a thick, hearty voice as he leans down to get a better look at you. "Well, you're a tiny one" He exclaims as he reaches his large hand down toward you. "Don't be afraid, I won't hurt you." You shrink away from the hand, but he is much bigger and faster and soon you are picked up, surprisingly gently, in the large, strong fingers, and soon find yourself in the rough, but pleasantly warm palm of the giant's hand as he looks down at you. His enormous face takes up your whole field of vision, and is so big you can make out every detail of it.
"You ought to be more careful, you know. I almost stepped on you. Why, I would have squished you like a little bug with these giant feet without even realizing it. My name's Paul. What brings you here, little man?"
