Chapter #4

Getting Over the Guilt

    by: Fig Author IconMail Icon
Templeton groaned and shook his head, he wobbled on all fours off thinking about where to find a WORD...of all things... He'd get it over with, how hard could it be to find something like that anyhow? He looked side to side for inspiration, past litter and dirt, and up into the dark night sky...even that vast blue and it's twinkling lights made his fat stomach growl with hunger. "Patience now..." he spoke to his body.

Finally he spotted a rather tall, cylindrical trash bin in the distance, and his sneaky self began to justify his next thought. He SHOULD be thorough in his search, should he not? That word could be at the bottom of such a bin, and he would be careless to pass it up! Excitedly he scurried to the closest ledge to the bin he could find, a large wooden food stand. He groaned and moaned hefting his increased weight up and up, bouncing his furry belly as he landed atop the counter. His mid-section bulged from side to side as he scurried across it and looked down at the loaded goldmine.

He stuck his nose in the air and inhaled the rotting filth inside and grinned wide and wider. "Here I come, little word! Templeton, to the rescue!" he pointed to the sky, then cannonballed right into the trash, landing on a fat, barely nibbled on sandwich. "No use letting all this waste away...after all, it might get in the way later on!" Templton's eye glinted with cleverness, he'd fooled the guilt out of his own self.

A little under an hour later, the trash bin wobbled to and fro before toppling over with a loud thud. Litter of all sorts billowed out onto the ground, followed by a gray bowling ball, rolling forward once, twice and finally coming to a rest. Templeton lay on his grotesquely swollen body looking as content as ever. He licked his mouth for any escaping flavors in his fur, and squeezed at his bulk below him with his digits, a audible gurgling followed and Templeton erupted in a gasious belch. The near blob of a rat had not entirely lied, however, he had found a word, or words. He held in one hand badly nibbled cuttings with the phrases "Salty" and "Delectable."

Templeton looked down at the words and hiccupped, they were good words! His ears twitched and he spewed forth another powerful belch into the night. He'd done his duty, Charlotte never said WHAT words to find...she trusted Templeton enough to pick the right ones, right? Templeton's mind began turning again, as he nuzzled into his fat flesh below him, he SHOULD think about looking for more words...just in case...right?

You have the following choices:

1. Continue "Looking" in More Trash Bins...

2. Head Back, Turn in the Word, Eat from Wilbur's Slop...
