"How're you feeling this morning Shenz'" Pendeza asked.
"Mm," Shenzi inquired sleepily. It took her a few more moments to wake up enough to reply, but when she did she shuffled her large form closer to her new friend, and murmured happily, "never better." In the back of her mind it surprised her how quickly her romance with Pendeza had blossomed when her relationship with Banzai had gone nowhere despite years of slog.
Pendeza was also surprised how quickly he'd gone from wandering rogue to high society, but counted it as just his good luck, and while Shenzi could be a little demanding at times, she was overall a nice female. She was also quite lonely, admitting that her few friends seemed to have gotten more and more distant as she gained weight. He himself didn't see why a little bit, or more than a bit as it was now, of weight should repel him, it never had him, but he was happy for the chance, both to make her life better, and to have a better life himself.
Glancing back at the food alcove, Pendeza saw there was still part of a zebra left over from the last hunt, so he asked Shenzi, "hungry yet love?"
"A little," Shenzi replied, then it hit her what Pendeza had just said, "love?"
"Um," Pendeza said realising himself what he'd just said, then recovered, "well, if you want to be, yes, if not, well I hope we can still be friends."
Shenzi was speechless now. Pendeza had apparently called her 'love' only off-handedly, but it still left her reeling, trying to decide how to deal with it. Should she agree to his apparently unspoken proposal and accept him as a mate or not?
