Frill moved quietly within the dark confines of the egg room, ensuring the temperature of each egg was exactly what it should be. Colder than what was needed to hatch, kobolds could keep eggs viable indefinitely, letting them hatch only when they needed a surge of new members. They have been at peace for a while, but peace always came with a price. They had hunters out of the clan looking for food and treasure outside the borders, to trade with the humans that lived nearby. As they were a source of trade, the human authorities have no seen a need to take them out. Part of their deal in this was to keep their numbers "manegable".
She didn't have a position in the clan, other than a member, and as such followed the commands of the guards themselves. The guards answered to a captain, who answered directly to the leader.
"So this is where you been hiding." The voice, draconic in language, was from one of the guards. If a human heard them talk, it would be like a bunch of yapping dogs, but the kobolds language was much richer than that, each yap could have its own meaning and actually expand the draconic language itself. Frill glanced back. "I am where you had sent me." She inspected the last egg before moving to the guard. "Now, what is it you want this time?" She spoke a bit testily, as THIS guard seemed to always seek her out for rather dull assignments.
The guard smirked. "Now Frill, you can at least address me by name..."
