You ran into Mom in the hall as she was leaving the bedroom you just came from, busy collecting the trail of clothes you left in your search. You pose heroically with your fists at your hips with a puff up chest and ask, “So… What do you think?”
She glances up to you and quickly covers her mouth, muffling a snorted laugh, “Well… on the bright side, it IS a costume so maybe no one will recognize you.” Your face grew red with embarrassment, but there was no time to lose so you had no choice but to hurry her to the car.
On the way there, your mother insisted on giving you a dash of makeup between traffic stops since you forgot a mask and gave you a pair of red boots you could’ve sworn was part of the Supergirl set she had from the pile of clothes from earlier.
The traffic was rough and by the time you got to the house, many had already arrived. Getting out you turn to ask Mom what was so funny. She tugs at the baggy upper part of the suit, stretching nearly a foot from you with ease, “If you didn’t wait to the last minute to get ready, I could’ve warned you that while this is a jumpsuit, it’s not your father’s. It’s a full-body maternity leotard I wore when I was pregnant with you. This bagginess is for the swollen breasts”, she then stretches the lower half just above the legs, and continues, “...and this is for the pregnancy.
You stare down at the jumpsuit in shock as Mom hands you your trick or treat bag. In the bag is a wig of waist blonde hair, you just noticed the red boots had high heels, and the reflection of your car’s window shows the makeup she put on you actually was decent enough to make you look female.
