the button still wouldn't go in the hole!

...found that he still couldn't get the button in the hole. In vain, Shuichi repeated the process, taking deeper and deeper breaths, and sucking in his stomach more and more -- but no matter what he did, it seemed that the button still stubbornly refused to go in the hole.

After his sixth unsuccessful attempt at this, Shuichi gave up, letting out a massive, whining sigh as he let all of his belly hang out, forcing the flap of his pants apart -- no, no, no, no no! This could not be happening to him! He was Shuichi Shindou, and Shuichi Shindou was not some fat tub of lard who was too big to fit into his red hot pants! He absolutely had to get these hot pants on and he was going to get them on, whatever it took. All that mattered right now was making sure that they got on; once they were -- once Shuichi had proved, definitively, that he was not too fat for his favorite clothes -- then he could worry about getting rid of his bulging belly. Which he knew that he had to do; if he was too fat for the red hot pants, then soon he'd be too fat for everything, and that could not be allowed to happen.

On a complete impulse, Shuichi decided to lie down, thinking that it might help him get the button done; although, at first, he still couldn't get them done up, this move did seem to be somewhat helpful. He was going to get them on, whatever that meant and however it had to be done.

Finally, after five minutes of struggling and grunting and sucking in his belly...
