Chapter #6Live at South Plaza with Rebecca Chang by: Unknown “Son of a bitch!” Rebecca threw her mic at the closest zombie. She turned around and dashed back into the Fortune City hotel. The crew, her beloved Channel 6 Action News crew, had ditched her with a cloud of exhausted remaining from the van as the tires screeched from beyond the deadbolted gate. Whether this action was intentional or was done out of pure cowardice hadn’t mattered once Rebecca felt that her days here were shortened to mere minutes with blood thirsty zombies clambering to get closer.
The hotel lobby, which was just mild mannerly vacant moments ago, is scattered with hungry zombies here and there. Rebecca drew a quick breath and put on her brave face. Nothing a quick elbow to the jaw or a swift kick wouldn’t do to get the groaning undead out of the way. Her first thoughts of her current situation were to find a place of safety and gather up some weapons.
She ran into South Plaza, the one of the unfinished portions of The Fortune City Mall. There was no artificial lighting, only natural lighting coming in through the high ceiling The interior gave off a grey colored atmosphere with the walking dead occupying every corner. Plenty of construction materials were still around such as scaffolding, tools, and hard hats.
“WOAH!” Rebecca snapped out of her thinking when a zombie dove right in front of her, she whips the pistol from her pocket and plugs two bullets right into its head. “Phew,” she wipes the cold sweat from her forehead. A mushed groaning comes from behind her, she turns to see a good number of zombies slowly making their way toward her. Ahead, an equally sized group of zombies were approaching her.
She bit her lip, “Shit! I’m screwed!”, Rebecca grumbled, kicking herself for not running out into Fortune Park. Rebecca backs away as time advances the means of escape start to slim with the zombies starting to surround her. Her movement stops when a cold beam touches her back. Looking up Rebecca can see part of the scaffolding above her.
“The scaffolding! That’s it!” Rebecca climbed the construction, further distancing herself from the zombies who clumsily tried to do the same only to topple amongst themselves.
Up on the top scaffolding, Rebecca steadies her wobbling legs as she made one step after another across, “Knew it was a bad idea to climb in high heels.” Rebecca slipped of her high heels and held them within one hand. These things were a pain to climb in as much as they were to run in, “Should be able to put these to use.” Looking down at the scaffolding, Rebecca could see something that resembles a tray of food, a pamphlet, and a bundle of firecrackers right next to it.
Rebecca then got an idea from looking at the high heels and firecrackers. She sat down, set the lit firecrackers, slid them into her shoes, and threw her expensive high heel shoes across the mall lobby. The bright and loud crackling snatched the attention of the zombies who now shuffled their way toward the shoes.
Next to her, Rebecca picked up the pamphlet between her fingers and unfolded it. The pamphlet turned out to be a map of the entire Fortune City Mall.
“Alright. So I want to go here,” she said pointing at the safe house located in the Royal Flush Plaza, “That means I have to make my way through the Fortune City Arena and the Americana Casino. Sounds simple enough,” Rebecca folded the map and tucks it into her skirt pocket.
On the tray from Baron Von Brathaus, Rebecca spotted a map of the mall, two hotdogs slathered with melted cheese, a large order of onion rings, and a cup filled with cola too big to fit in one of Rebecca’s hands. “Screw my diet, I’m gonna need as much energy as I can get.”
The firecrackers wouldn’t be firing off for much longer, so Rebecca really had to stuff her meal into her mouth as quickly as possible. She took the largest bites of the hotdog as possible and barely thoroughly chewed through her last bites before stuffing another bite into her mouth. The same deal went with the onion rings and the soda to which she slurped down in combination. Splatters of grease and cheese stained her outfit much to her chagrin.
Rebecca winces at the thought of her gluttonous action and the strain she feels on her slim, tight stomach after cramming food down her gullet.
From her view at the top of the scaffolding she could see the firecrackers beginning to dim out, “Not much time. Gotta hurry.” Rebecca runs through South Plaza both utilizing hand-to-hand combat and the pistol she held tight in her right hand. On the way down, Rebecca adds a sledgehammer and a box of nails into her inventory.
The crowd of zombies would turn their attention toward Rebecca, yet at this point she was too far away to be bothered with. So they went back to shuffling and moaning amongst themselves.
Now entering the Fortune City Arena with a full stomach, Rebecca Chang’s objective is to…
