Why the Cast

Dan wanted to whirl around to see the culprit and beat him into a pulp, but his cast and crutches prevented him from taking such action. His temper had grown significantly with his frustration since he had been put into the leg cast nearly a week before. He had been immediately kicked off the football team since he couldn't play, and considering the time he would be recovering, he wouldn't be able to play basketball either. This efficiently brought the school's star jock's sports career to a screeching halt.
Dan's social life was left in metaphorical ruins. His girlfriend had dumped him in favor of a more capable jock, and most of the girls that would cluster and giggle while looking at him lustfully had moved on. Most of his friends no longer wanted to hang out with him, since his injury would 'hold them back' from most forms of entertainment. The only times Dan socialized now was across the internet and at small gatherings between his friends to play video games. He was only at those because he, being rich, had the best and latest games that the gang wanted to play.
In addition to Dan's now socially depraved life, his personal life was also in shambles. He could no longer work out-not only was it impractical with his leg, but both the school and his doctor forbade it. That given, he would no longer be able to qualify for any sports scholarships. He would need one too, since his grades had never been the greatest and his performance had declined since the accident.
Dan was now in a worse position than he had ever been in before, and it was only the beginning of the year! Since it was his senior year, he wouldn't have a next year to fall back on and regain his status. Dan knew he needed to pull his life back together and had to start somewhere, and he knew just where he would start and why........
