Chapter #4

"Please let me keep this body."

    by: Unknown
From far above you, the blurry out-of-focus face of your old body begins to speak. You cringe at hearing the familiar sound of your own voice under someone else's control.

“Please let me keep this body,” Baby Eva says from within your old body. “I don't want to be a baby again!”

Your mum smiles triumphantly.

“Well, well,” says mum. “This is indeed a surprise. I had no idea you'd instantly acquire Austin's language abilities. This is most fascinating indeed.”

She began furiously scribbling notes to herself on some paper attached to a clipboard.

“What about my question?” repeated Baby Eva. “Will you let me keep this body?”

Uh-Oh, you think. There's no way you want to stay as an infant girl! You'd have to grow up all over again, but this time as a female. Your mom wouldn't grant Eva's request … would she?

“Why do you want Austin's body?” your mom calmly asked.

“Now that I've been a teenager, I feel really grossed out by the notion of soiling myself,” answers Eva. “Plus, you have no idea how frustrating it is being unable to control your arms, legs, and mouth. I like being able to speak. I don't want to return to being an infant and be trapped like that: unable to walk, talk, or go to the bathroom!”

“Hmm,” replies your mum. “That's a reasonable request.”

You start to panic!

“Let's make a deal,” your mother says. “For the next month, you can be Austin: my fourteen year old son. But you must pretend to be him in every possible way. Meanwhile, I will continue to observe my little niece – the new Eva. I'm curious if Austin's mind will begin to regress over the course of the next thirty days. Or perhaps he will find a way to learn to walk and talk?”

“But what about when the month is up?” asks Baby Eva.

“If Austin's mind has regressed and he shows no progress, then you may keep his body and he will remain Eva forever,” says your mother. “However, if Austin can demonstrate he's still himself by somehow learning to communicate and overcoming the infantile limitations of his new body, then I will restore both of you to your proper forms.”
