This choice: Baby Doll is contacted by the FJL • Go Back... At first everything went fine for King Croc and Queen Baby Doll. They were making a good profit but not enough to draw attention from the FJL who pretty muched ignored them because of the relative peace they brought to Gotham. Their men were loyal and respected their new leaders, and the few crime bosses Croc did not kill, eat, or paralyzed for life, were to afraid to betray the new rulers of Gotham's underworld. However as time went on Baby became increasingly worried about her partner's mental state. He was getting more violent, more aggressive, more animal like. At first she just put if off as Croc being Croc and was able to control her pet by petting him in just the right spots. But after about 6 months he started having head aches that would only go away after he killed and ate something, even though Baby Doll's singing seemed to help. These head aches got worse and worse until they turned into full blown episodes of mindless violence. So far Croc was able to stop him self from hurting Baby Doll or their men by despairing for a few hours. He would come back with his hands and face covered in blood and when Baby Doll asked him what he had been eating he would just mumble something about going to a local meat plant they owned and killing and eating some of the cows. Baby Doll doubted this from the begging, which was reinforced when she saw on the news about how the cops were looking into the murder victims whose bodies were partially eaten and the rest was mutilated.
When Baby Doll confronted Killer Croc about it and telling him how they needed to keep a low profile he started yelling about how they could do so much more and that he was getting bored with just sitting around selling drugs to bums and losers. Baby Doll came right back by screaming that if they tried anything like that they would fine them selves in the belly of a FJL member in minuets. Croc roared that he was King Croc and that he would take on any challengers, he then knocked Baby Doll to the floor with the back of his hand and was just about to rip her head off when for some reason he stopped at the last second. There was just something about Baby Doll that made him not want to kill, maybe it was the fact that she made him feel almost normal, or maybe it was the way she would shot some one in the legs for making a shot joke about her, or maybe it was just the way she sang to him made him felt... loved? The idea of someone actually loving was revolting to Killer Croc who had spent a life time being called a freak and that love was just another form of control, and yet he had spent a life also trying to find someone who could love him. Thats why he treated his men so well, because he wanted to feel respected and admired instead of just feared and hated. All these thoughts made his head hurt and he could feel another one of his episodes coming on so he roared one more time then jumped into the sewer that was right next to their underground hide out.
Baby Doll laid on the floor wiping the blood from her mouth and watched her partner swim away and for the first time since she was busted out of Arkham Asylum she felt truly afraid. And not just that Croc may kill her but if he really was going mad, what would happen to their criminal empire? She may have been the brains behind it, running the day to day coming and goings, but it was Killer Croc that formed it and it was Killer Croc who kept it going. Not only did the men respect him more, they loved him. He was actually a fair and loyal boss who watched over his underlings, making sure those who were loyal were taken care and rewarded instead of just treating them like toys like crime bosses in the past. He was a hero, the last of the real crime lords to stand up against the FJL and he did by setting simple goals that their men could reach. If they found out he was losing his mind they might turn on them in fear that they could no longer protect them. And then there were the other crime bosses that were left in the city, the only reason Croc had let them live was because Baby Doll told him they were going to need people to administer their empire but she doubted that they would show her the same form of mercy if they thought there was a chance for them to bring down her and Croc and take their place as the Kings of Gotham. And the last thing any of them needed was a bloody gang war, that would certainly draw the attention of both the police and the FJL.
And it wasn't just his episodes that were getting worst but he was also getting more aggressive in general, he was becoming increasingly paranoid, he could no longer sit still, he would talk about expanding the empire even though both of them agreed in the begging that it would be a bad idea to do so. He also seemed to enjoy killing more and more, before killing some one was just part of the job of being a crime boss and neither of them were squeamish about shooting some in the stomach and then letting them die a long and pain full death as an example to others. But now Croc would look for any excuse to rip someone a part even when he wasn't having an episode. This worried Baby Doll because despite her attempts to hide it, they men were getting worried that something was wrong with their King.
There seemed to be only one way out for her and Killer Croc. A few days ago she was contacted by Poison Ivy who was once good friends with Croc when they were inmates together in Arkham and was worried that he might be losing his mind do to his Epidermolytic Hyperkeratosis and claimed she might be able to cure both of them if they agreed to join the FJL. At first Baby Doll thought it was a trick to get her to review the secrets of their empire but now seeing how far Croc was falling and that he was dragging her down with him she saw no other choice. Using a pay phone to call the number she was given she told Poison Ivy she would meet her at the docks at noon the next morning since none of her men would be there to see her because they worked at night and even if they did she would claim she was just spying for the gang.
Still not trusting the one time super villain Baby Doll brought her submachine gun teddy bear, and an assortment of other hand guns that were hidden all over he body. Then making sure she looked like the perfect 8 year old girl she walked down one of her and Croc's underground tunnels which not even their men new about.   indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
