Few witnessed the light as it streaked across the sky, and even fewer thought it anything more than their imagination. It darted hurriedly about, making its way across the landscape as though searching for something...which, incidentally, it was.
The light's search came to an end as it came across a small, modest house on the edge of town. It swooped inside, passing through a window like it wasn't there, and was upstairs in an instant. It passed the door to a room where a little girl slept, cuddling her Chao and dreaming the blissful dreams of the innocent. It stopped before another room and passed easily through the door.
This bedroom was occupied by the little girl's mother. As she slumbered, the light studied her intently and with approval. It could sense great amounts of love, kindness and empathy coming from this woman. She would be perfect. Satisfied with its choice, the light carefully moved closer and closer to the woman....
Gasping, Vanilla awoke with a start. She bolted upright in bed and looked across her moonlit bedroom. She saw nothing out of the ordinary.
"Who's there?!" she said with a frightened whisper.
No answer came. Vanilla turned on the lamp on her nightstand, illuminating her bedroom. Still, she saw nothing. Yet just a moment ago, she could have sworn someone else was in the room with her...like a presence. Hoping it was just her imagination, she got out of bed and searched the room. The window and door were both locked, and there were no signs of forced entry. Nobody was hiding under her bed, or inside her closet. She was about to return to bed when she noticed something...
Her reflection in the full-length mirror int he corner of her room.
She looked quizzically at the mirror, trying to figure out what it was that was bothering her. Again, there was nothing visibly out of the ordinary...yet she could still feel something different. She placed a hand on her belly and felt something she couldn't explain, couldn't put into words, but it was there.
