Nathan grins as a game of dice is selected. A fat, beady eyed slop Nathan might be, but he has a very sharp mind, and can calculate odds for any situation, taking in any factor, including the surface the dice are rolled on, the way the roller holds the dice, and so on.
As the usual dregs step up to participate in the game, it seems the outcome of the game is a foregone conclusion.
Until Dr. Wyatt Fields joins the challenge.
Dr. Wyatt (as everyone calls him), is the young, blue eyed, blonde haired reservation doctor whom everyone has come to love, including you. He listens patiently, respects tradition, and yet somehow manages to bring in twenty-first medical practice into the reservation without anyone seeming to notice, or at least protest too much.
No one expected to see Dr. Wyatt there. No one even knows who told Dr. Wyatt that this was going on. But since Dr. Wyatt isn't actually trying to stop the ceremony, everyone seems to think it's okay for him to participate him. Even Nathan, who clearly doesn't want Dr. Wyatt to be there, doesn't challenge Dr. Wyatt's right to participate in the ceremony.
Nathan is even less pleased when Dr. Wyatt wins the dice game and, incidentally, you. But to Nathan's credit, he doesn't challenge Dr. Wyatt's victory. He just waits until the ceremony is completed and you are given to Dr. Wyatt. Then Nathan storms out.
